Talk about a heartbreak, insult or humiliation all have one common trait which is they all happen because one doesn’t think how the other feels or is affected by it.
Impact on Relationship:
Self-interest distorts the compassion, trust, and belief one has in the relationship. The exhilaration present inside might not stay tomorrow but rather putting the dagger at the back or making a false narrative statement to demoralize the other one it is always better to stick into it until the end. It’s always better not to throw away the apple once its eaten, taking the seed out and planting it again and then eating it would be much sweeter.
Self-Harm:
Being too selfish prioritizes own needs and wants above others which completely negates the concern over others. It may not be seen and realized for the time being but as time passes, like a hidden parasite, the consequences of actions silently consume inner self, feasting upon conscience unbeknownst to your conscious awareness. It puts a stain on the relationship between two people. Being selfish can hinder personal growth and hinder the growth of others. Selfish people can increase the development and potential of those around them by meeting their own needs at the expense of others. Opportunities for collaboration, training and support may be lost, which can render people ineffective and hinder their progress.
Psychological Effect:
Self-centered can harm people emotionally and psychologically. Being constantly neglected, belittled, or ignored by selfish people can lower self-worth, lower self-esteem, and make a person more vulnerable to stress or challenges. Depression can lead to a cycle of negative emotions and feelings of weakness that affect overall health.
The impact of selfish behavior on others is profound and significant. From relationships to loss of trust, emotional and psychological problems, conflicts, personal growth and stigma, the destruction of the individual mind is unpredictable. It is important that we recognize the negative side of dirty behavior and try to build understanding, compassion, and empathy for others. By adopting a healthy mindset, we can foster healthy relationships, build strong communities, and create harmony. As, John Donne said, “No man is an island, entire of itself; every man is a piece of the continent."
